Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $53,500 - Midpoint: $66,900 (Salaried E8)

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Laboratory Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of a science or research lab(s).

Additional Department Summary: Oversees all equipment and maintenance in the chemical, biological, and environmental teaching labs, including pilot-scale process units and the associated instrumentation. Schedules service calls for instruments under service contracts. Performs regular maintenance on other analytical tools in assigned areas. Assists faculty in the design, upgrade, revamp, and construction of new test stands or lab experiments. Develops and maintains custom-made computer-based instrumentation, control logic subroutines, and interfaces in LabVIEW to maintain the cutting-edge character of the labs. Coordinates implementation of safety protocols, hazard mitigation strategies, and continuity of teaching and research with teaching assistants. Trains teaching assistants and faculty on current standard operating procedures of equipment, instrumentation, and test stands. Updates training and documentation website. Identifies job hazards and maintains safe operating conditions in the lab. Interfaces with facilities to secure proper operation of utilities such as steam, DI water, compressed dry air, and hot water. Supports sponsored research activities and industry-sponsored projects such as senior design, ChemE Car, and lab tours as needed. Serves as a technical resource within the College of Engineering to work with various faculty, staff, students, and research centers in the chemical, biological, and environmental areas.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree and four (4) years of laboratory experience; OR bachelor's degree and two (2) years of laboratory experience; OR master's degree and some laboratory experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Undergraduate experience in the engineering/science subject area of the laboratory may be considered as experience, including internships and co-op participation.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite). Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff. Ability to take the initiative and ownership of responsibilities, with strong organizational skills and a problem-solving mindset. Ability to work well independently and within a team environment. Working knowledge of multiple editing platforms and software packages. Knowledge of basic programming, networking, or system skills. Ability and willingness to independently learn new systems and evolve with technological advances. Extensive knowledge of some of the following applications: Microsoft Office, VBA, MassHunter, LabVIEW, and Solidworks.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering that includes hands-on experience with chemical process equipment, hardware, software, operation, maintenance, and/or supplies. Experience with chemical process equipment, and data collection software such as LabVIEW and computer-aided drafting (CAD) software. Experience with pumps, compressors, valves, electrical equipment, and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems. Familiarity with laboratory equipment used in engineering and the chemical sciences.
