HR SPECIALIST I
VANCE, AL - TUSCALOOSA PLANT

As a member of the Human Resources team, the HR Specialist I will be responsible for recruiting and retaining production team members, driving employee engagement, participating in employment investigations, handling sensitive documentation related to personnel activities, and supporting the training of employees.

The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Explain company personnel policies, benefits, and procedures to employees or job applicants.
  • Records data for each employee, including such information as addresses, weekly earnings, logistics, absences, counseling issues, and dates of and reasons for terminations.
  • Process and approves employee times using our time and attendance system.
  • Oversee the day-to-day HR function of Team Members while assigned at MBUSI.
  • Process and revies employment applications to evaluate qualifications or eligibility of applicants.
  • Answers questions regarding examinations, eligibility, salaries, benefits, and other pertinent information.
  • Examines employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions.
  • Coach employees on issues pertaining to conflict resolution and employee performance.
  • Provide information to authorized persons and organizations, such as credit bureaus and finance companies, in compliance with Lear Tuscaloosa confidentiality practices and HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform administrative functions such as printing out pay stubs, resetting passwords, checking discrepancies with time, handling filing status changes) using Kronos and People Soft databases, and Q-quest.
  • Perform employee advocate functions such as responding to questions pertaining to benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
  • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are all in compliance.
  • Recruit, interview, test, and select employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Complete paperwork and reports as required or requested with due diligence.
  • Assists with new policy and procedure development for Lear Tuscaloosa.
  • Coach employees on issues pertaining to conflict resolution and employee performance.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Coordinate, develop and conduct training for Lear employees and management regarding soft skills, drug awareness, safety, harassment, etc.
  • Provide recommendations to upper management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Reviews and approves FMLA requests.
  • to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Initiate investigations regarding allegations of harassments, discrimination, and/or inappropriate conduct.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the HR department regarding employee disclosures and issues.

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three to five years generalist experience
  • Ability to build strong relationships with members of the production and management staff
  • Previous experience supporting a large hourly workforce
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Bonus If You Have:

  • A Master's in HR or an MBA with a concentration in HR
  • Previous experience working in a JIT manufacturing environment
