PURPOSE

Primary responsibilities for this position are designing and developing mechanical and electromechanical components and products for the high-speed document scanning industry. This position requires the ability to apply broad knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, both theoretical and practical, along with years of design experience to product design. Inherent to the position is the ability to use basic engineering problem-solving methodology to define problems, collect data, analyze data, propose solutions, and evaluate solutions for effectiveness. The position requires verbal and written communications skills and the ability to work well within an engineering team environment and with interdepartmental teams. This position requires an engineer that is a self-starter, self-motivated, and can navigate most design tasks with only general supervision. The person filling this position needs to maintain awareness of current technologies and changes in technology through continual learning.

JOB DESCRIPTION

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create 3D CAD designs for product changes and new product development
  • Manage complex 3D CAD assemblies
  • Generate and update 2D CAD drawings
  • Work independently on projects to analyze data, define potential courses of action, develop action plans, and implement action plans.
  • Maintain adequate mechanical engineering knowledge and CAD skills to design mechanical components and assemblies for use on manufactured equipment
  • Ensure proper documentation is generated for new designs and existing documentation for older designs is kept current.
  • Work with fabrication and production to ensure that best design/documentation practices are utilized to help streamline the manufacturing process.
  • Support Customer Service and Manufacturing when needed.
  • Work effectively with other team members.
  • Must be able to multi-task and handle multiple projects at one time.
  • Willing to travel, on occasion.
  • Work effectively in a cross-functional and collaborative team environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8 Years Plus Mechanical Engineering Design Experience.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, engineering practices, and procedures within the mechanical design field.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong ability to determine critical-to-function parameters of complex mechanical systems.
  • Experience designing parts and complex assemblies and creating part and assembly drawings using 3D CAD software.
  • Experience determining and defining appropriate mechanical tolerances for a given design.
  • Experience with PTC Products (Creo Parametric and Windchill) is preferable.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication is a plus.
